An improved website that makes it even easier to navigate your account, make payments, and more
The Smart-Choice Mobile app that provides a more user-friendly experience, greater account insights, and additional self-services capabilities
Improved account communications to keep you informed about your account and help you get better value for your dollars
Quicker, easier claims and reimbursement capabilities that speed reimbursements and offer increased convenience

Here are some additional details about what will happen.

As we move to the new, enhanced solution there will be a Transition Period, during which you will not be able to use your debit card, file claims or access your 2023 available balance. See the timeline tab for the exact dates of the transition period for your account.

Before the transition begins, we recommend that you print any statements that are important to you, should you need to reference them during the transition period.

Here is what you can expect during this transition period:

Beginning on January 1, 2024, online access will be available on the benefits website. Your 2024 coverage will be visible along with a note about the transition period for your 2023 balance(s). All tools and resources, including your 2024 balance(s), will be available for you to use.
You will be issued a new Smart-Choice Card. Your new card will be mailed by December 21, 2023. After this date, you can securely dispose of your current orange debit card, as it will no longer work. Your 2024 balance(s) are available to use on your Smart-Choice card on January 1, 2024.
The Smart-Choice Mobile app will be available for download beginning on January 1, 2024. To download, visit the Apple App store or Google Play store. You will need to register as a new user by creating a new ID and password that is specific for the mobile app. Once you have accessed the application, your credentials will be saved and can be accessed with Touch/Face ID. The “Reimburse Me” mobile app will no longer be available after December 31, 2023.
Your current year balances will be transferred to your account and available on the Smart-Choice Card after the transition period.
Claims for reimbursement cannot be submitted during the transition period. If you need to pay for an eligible expense during the transition period, you will need to pay out-of-pocket and submit a claim after the transition period ends. Visit your benefits website prior to the transition to view your specific deadlines.

December 21, 2023Your new Smart-Choice card is mailed. Once you receive it, keep it in a safe place so you can begin using the card on January 1, 2024. Upon receipt of the new card, please securely dispose of your current orange debit card, as it will no longer work.
December 31, 2023Last date to use your current orange debit card for purchases and submit claims toward your 2023 balance(s) until after the transition period.
January 1, 2024New website and Smart-Choice mobile app are available. Your 2024 balance(s) are available to use on your Smart-Choice card.
January 1 - January 12, 2024Transition period for your 2023 balance(s). You will not have access to your 2023 balance(s) during this time.
January 13, 2024Transition period ends. Your 2023 coverage and balance(s) are available on the new website, mobile app, and Smart-Choice card. You can access your account and submit claims. Claims received after December 31, 2023 will be processed against your 2023 balance(s).

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. We are committed to making it simple to make smart choices when spending your money and saving for the future. We are making this transition to bring you an easy-to-use website, a user-friendly mobile app, new communication options, quicker and easier claims reimbursement capabilities, and more robust educational resources. We are confident that you will see the value of these changes after the transition period concludes.
  2. The transition period will begin on January 1, 2024 and will end on January 12, 2024. Your prior year balance(s) will be available in your online account on January 13, 2024. Your 2024 balance(s) will be available to use on January 1, 2024.
  3. After December 31, 2023, the YSA Card and Reimburse Me mobile app will be unavailable, and during the transition period, you will be unable to access your 2023 funds on the card. If you need to use your money during the transition period, you will need to pay out of pocket and submit a claim for reimbursement after the transition period is complete. After the transition period, balances from your current year accounts will transfer and be available on the updated site.
  4. During the transition period, the Smart-Choice card cannot be used to access your prior year funds. If you incur an eligible expense during the transition period, you will need to pay out of pocket and submit a claim for reimbursement after the transition period is complete. Your 2024 balance(s) will be available to use on January 1, 2024.
  5. Yes. Your new Smart-Choice card will be mailed by December 21, 2023. Please allow 7-10 days for delivery.
  6. December 31, 2023 is the last day to use your YSA Card. After this date, you should securely dispose of your YSA card, as it will no longer work. All balances will transfer to your new Smart-Choice card and will be available to use after the transition period concludes.
  7. Any additional transactions, including credits posted to your YSA card from your providers after the transistion will not process. Please follow up with your provider to ensure they do not refund the YSA card as the account will be closed.
  8. The Reimburse Me app will no longer be available after December 31, 2023. Your account will be transferred to the new Smart-Choice Mobile app, which will be available for download beginning on January 1, 2024.
  9. After the transition period, there are three tasks you will want to complete.
    • Download the Smart-Choice Mobile app for easy, on-the-go access to your account.
    • Sign up for direct deposit, if you haven't already. If you have received payments at your direct deposit account on file in the past year, that information will transfer to the new site, but if you want to make changes to your current direct deposit details or sign up for the first time, you will need to do so on the website.
    • Establish your communication preferences and set your preferred methods for receiving ongoing account messages.
  10. No. If you had a prior recurring claim with YSA, you need to resubmit that claim to Smart-Choice upon conversion.
